What Is Jurassic June at West Midlands Safari Park?

Jurassic June is a special seasonal event that transforms West Midlands Safari Park into a full-on prehistoric playground every weekend throughout June. It’s not just a static display, this is a fully immersive dinosaur experience with live shows, roaming characters, and hands-on activities that bring the Cretaceous and Jurassic periods to life.

The event is centred around the park’s permanent Land of the Living Dinosaurs attraction, which already features towering animatronic creatures including a mighty T-Rex, a colossal Mamenchisaurus, and early dinosaurs like the Eoraptor.

During Jurassic June, however, the whole experience gets turned up a notch with live dinosaur characters roaming the park, keeper-led encounters, and special appearance sessions that the kids absolutely love.

The highlight? Incredibly lifelike Velociraptors brought to life by expert handlers, plus the chance to meet baby dinosaurs up close on the Discovery Trail. These aren’t your average costume characters; they’re detailed, realistic, and genuinely impressive for dinosaur fans of any age!

Explore the Land of the Living Dinosaurs

Even outside of the Jurassic June live shows, the Land of the Living Dinosaurs is one of the most impressive permanent attractions at West Midlands Safari Park, and it’s included in the standard admission price.

This walk-through prehistoric world takes you on a journey through different eras of Earth’s history. Jaw-dropping animatronic creatures tower above you and roar as you pass. It’s genuinely spectacular, and the level of detail makes it feel like you’ve stepped back millions of years in time!

What you’ll see inside

The Cretaceous Period is ruled by the mighty T-Rex, one of the most recognisable and thrilling dinosaurs in the attraction. Kids (and adults!) tend to stop dead in their tracks when this one comes into view.

The Jurassic Era is home to the enormous Mamenchisaurus, one of the longest dinosaurs to have ever lived. Curious little ones will love the educational panels alongside it, which pack in a brilliant learning moment too!

The Eoraptor takes centre stage in the Early Dinosaurs section, standing as one of the first creatures ever to have evolved into a true dinosaur. It’s a great opportunity to show children just how diverse the dinosaur world was before the giants took over!

The Dino Dig is where budding palaeontologists can get hands-on, digging for fossils and unearthing their own prehistoric finds. It’s brilliant for younger children and a perfect spot to let them run off some energy.

The Ice Age section rounds off the experience with mammoths, sabretooths, and giant sloths, all set against a rumbling volcano and an atmospheric ice cave. It’s a stunning finale to the walk-through. A great reminder, too, that the prehistoric world didn’t end with the dinosaurs!

Tips for Visiting West Midlands Safari Park During Jurassic June

A little planning goes a long way on busy Jurassic June weekends! Here are our top tips for making the most of your visit:

  • Book in advance. Jurassic June weekends are hugely popular. Booking online ahead of your visit guarantees entry and often works out cheaper than buying on the gate.
  • Arrive early. The park gets busy from mid-morning onwards, especially on sunny weekends. Getting there when gates open gives you first pick of the Dino Dig and a quieter walk through the Land of the Living Dinosaurs.
  • Plan your show schedule. There are five Velociraptor Live Shows per day (12pm to 4pm) and five Meet The Babies! sessions (from 11:30am). Check the times in advance and build your day around the slots that suit your family best.
  • Don’t rush the Safari Drive. It’s easy to get so caught up in the dinosaur action that you forget the park’s famous Safari Drive, where you can see lions, giraffes, rhinos, and more from the comfort of your car. Factor in plenty of time for this too!
  • Bring a camera. The photo opportunities with the Velociraptor characters are genuinely spectacular. The expert keepers actively encourage guests to grab photos with their dino friends!
  • Check the daily talks schedule. Beyond Jurassic June, the park runs regular Conservation Station talks and keeper sessions throughout the day. Check the daily talks and show times page before you go so you don’t miss anything.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. There’s a lot of ground to cover between the Safari Walk, the Land of the Living Dinosaurs, the Discovery Trail, and the Adventure Theme Park. Comfy footwear is a must!

Is Jurassic June Worth It?

Absolutely, yes! West Midlands Safari Park is already one of the best family days out in the Midlands, but Jurassic June takes it to a whole new level for dinosaur-loving families.

The permanent Land of the Living Dinosaurs is already brilliant on its own. Add to that the live Velociraptor shows and baby dino encounters, and it becomes a genuinely unique experience. The dinosaur characters are lifelike and impressive in a way that goes far beyond what you’d expect, and the keeper-led interaction adds an educational layer that parents will love just as much as the kids.

The fact that Jurassic June is included in standard park admission makes it exceptional value. You’re getting the full safari experience, the walk-through prehistoric world, live dinosaur shows, and the Adventure Theme Park (with a ride wristband add-on) all in one visit. For families, that’s a seriously packed day out!

Given that there are only eight days of Jurassic June available across the month, don’t leave it too late to book. The final weekend (27th and 28th June) will come around fast!
